The students of two schools in Pitești are visiting Gironella these days, in Catalunya, as part of a students exchange project at its second edition, initiated by teachers Georgeta Petre and Meritxell Escayola.
An inspiring eTwinning project titled “Ambassadors of Culture” has brought together three European schools—”Ion Pillat” School and “Alexandru Davila” School in Pitești, Romania, and Institut Pere Fontdevila in Gironella, Catalunya—in a dynamic cultural exchange that celebrates friendship, diversity, and learning beyond borders.
The project, involving 19 Romanian students, David Bușcă, Maia Rădulescu, Matei Priseceanu, Luca Anghel, Andreas Priseceanu, Ianis Florea, Maria Dinu, Jacqueline Ștefănescu, Gabriel Marghiolu, Maria Raysa Ciocîrlan, Alexandra Mușetescu, Sebastian Mușetescu ,Rebeca Trandafir, Edgar Chiroșcă, Ema Tesloianu, Sofia Costache, David Brătulescu, Theodor Pavelescu and Luca Radu, coordinated by their teachers Georgeta Petre, Simona Radu and accompanied by the headteacher Alina Pahonțu, alongside 20 Catalan students, coordinated by their teachers, Meritxell Escayola and Marta Casals, began earlier this year, under the name ”The Ambassadors of Culture”.
It started with the visit of the Catalan group to Pitești in February, and is now continuing with the Romanian students visiting Gironella. The initiative is built on the core principles of eTwinning, of collaboration, intercultural understanding and digital learning.
„Ambassadors of Culture” – A Successful eTwinning Exchange Between Romania and Catalunya
During the February visit, students from Institut Pere Fontdevila experienced Romanian hospitality firsthand. They explored local traditions, tasted traditional cuisine, participated in school activities, and formed lasting bonds with their Romanian counterparts. The visit was an immersive experience that introduced them to Romania’s rich history and cultural heritage, with guided tours, workshops, and collaborative classroom sessions.
Now, in May, the Romanian delegation is in Gironella, deepening the intercultural dialogue and strengthening their collaboration and friendships. Hosted by the Catalan families, the Romanian students are experiencing Catalunya’s vibrant culture through school visits, excursions, and community events. From exploring the historic streets of Gironella to engaging in creative activities that highlight Catalan traditions, the visit offers a unique opportunity for cultural enrichment and mutual appreciation.
“Ambassadors of Culture” is more than just a student exchange—it is a bridge between two cultures, fostering empathy, curiosity, and global citizenship among young people. Both partners have expressed their enthusiasm for continuing such international partnerships in the future, recognizing the invaluable educational and personal growth opportunities they provide.
This project stands as a shining example of how European schools can unite to promote understanding, the exchange of good practices between schools, as well as friendship across borders, preparing students for a future where intercultural competence is key.
